Additional clarification of Academy uniform rules:
Footwear:
· All learners must wear a suitable pair of formal, plain black school shoes.
· Shoes must have a back to them.
· Learners are not allowed to wear boots.
· Black trainers or plimsolls are not permitted.
· Shoes must not have a heel/platform that raises the shoe more than 5cm from the ground.
· Laces and any decorations must be black.
Hair, face and make-up:
· Sculpture lines are not permitted in hair or eyebrows
· No unconventional hair styles or colours, or unconventional make up.
· No decorative attachments are to be worn in the hair.
Jewellery
· One small earring can be worn in each earlobe.
· Nose, lip, eyebrow, tongue or any other piercings (including with clear bars) are not permitted. Wearing a plaster over any non-permitted piercing is not acceptable.
· One bracelet, one ring and a wrist watch are permitted.
· In certain lessons (such as PE), earrings and watches must be removed and should be handed in for safe keeping. Removal of earrings in these circumstances is a Health and Safety issue. Although the Academy is prepared to safeguard the earrings, it cannot be held responsible for any that are handed in. The preferred option is that learners do not wear jewellery on days on which they have lessons which will require the removal of jewellery.
Miscellaneous
· Shirts must be tucked in and worn with the top button done up.
· No hats, caps, scarves, hoodies, sweatshirts, hoods or bandannas are to be worn on the Academy site.
· Coats and gloves can be worn on the Academy site, but not inside any building.
· Visible tattoos are not permitted.
· Leg warmers or footless tights are not allowed.
· T-shirts worn under shirts or blouses should not be visible.
Breaches of the uniform rules
If a learner is found not to be in correct uniform, the following will apply:
· The learner will be asked to remove the prohibited item, and, if necessary, replace it with an item which is part of the Academy uniform.
· The Academy may confiscate the prohibited item. Confiscated items are returned to learners who come to collect them from Learner Services at the end of each term.
If the learner has no way of replacing the prohibited item (e.g. wearing uniform shoes), the Academy will:
· Attempt to provide the replacement item from the Academy’s small stock of spare uniform
· Contact parents and attempt to arrange for the correct uniform to be provided
If neither of these approaches results in the learner being in correct uniform, the Academy will isolate the learner from lessons and general circulation, including break and lunch time. The same principle applies to prohibited hair styles or sculpture lines. Parents will be asked to remedy the situation and the learner will be held in isolation until this has been achieved.
Consultation
Modifications or changes to the Academy uniform will be subject to a period of consultation not less than one term before the changes are introduced.
The following groups shall be consulted:
· Learner Council
· Academy Governing Body
· Staff
· Parents
The successful implementation of the Academy uniform policy depends on the support of all stakeholders: Learners, parents and staff. We are grateful for your support in ensuring that our learners dress smartly in Academy uniform every day.
