Purpose of Policy 
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the aims, responsibilities and procedures with regard to School Uniform, Jewellery and Personal Appearance of children are made clear to staff, parents, carers, children and Governors.  We wish to be effective in ensuring that children are smart and dressed appropriately for school.  In partnership with staff, parents, carers and pupils we will monitor children’s appearance and work quickly to solve problems.
 
Aims

• we believe that school uniform helps to promote a feeling of belonging

• we want the children to take pride in their appearance

• we will provide a clear set of guidance on the school uniform requirements for this school

• we will provide clear guidelines on what they can and cannot wear in terms of jewellery

• we will provide clear guidelines on children’s appearance

To achieve these aims we will

• ensure parents are aware of the school’s uniform, jewellery and personal appearance guidelines

• encourage and help children to be more aware of the importance of wearing school uniform

• ensure that we communicate quickly and effectively with parents and carers about any problems or concerns that occur

• clarify and support the key roles of the class teacher in promoting good appearance
   

Entitlement
 
This policy applies equally to all children in the school
 
SCHOOL UNIFORM
 
All articles of clothing must be clearly labelled with child’s name.  The school cannot accept any responsibility for any lost items.
 
School uniform

• Long/short grey trousers.  Trousers must be tailored and full length, no other style is permitted.  Shorts must be ‘uniform’ short and not PE or casual style.

• Maroon sweatshirt/ sweatshirt cardigan, with school logo (optional)

• White polo shirt, with school logo (optional)

• Maroon pleated skirts, pinafore dress (infants only).

• White, grey or maroon socks/tights, grey socks for boys

• Black shoes – please note that children are not permitted to wear trainers, mules, sling backs, peep toes, boots or high heeled fashion shoes

Summer uniform

• From the beginning of the Summer Term red and white checked dresses may be worn.

• White socks, please note sports socks not permitted

PE/Swimming Kit

• White crew necked tee shirt, with school logo (optional)

• Plain red, white or black shorts, please note shorts with sports motives not permitted

• Trainers or plimsolls – these are not for general school wear

• Jogging bottoms are allowed on the permission of classteacher during colder weather – for outside use only

• PE Kit should be brought into school on a Monday morning in a small bag ie draw string and taken home on a Friday for washing.  PE Kit needs to be in school ready for use all week!

• All in one swim suit for girls and close fitting swimming trunks for boys, please note long and baggy fashion swimming trunks are not allowed for safety reasons.

• Swimming kit must be brought to school in a small bag ie draw string on the morning of swimming lesson and to be taken home at the end of the day

Jewellery

• Children may if they wish come to school wearing small stud earrings, please note no more than a single pair.  No other jewellery is permitted

• Children are not permitted to wear nail varnish to school, make-up or any type a tattoos including the stick-on variety
