SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

The governors of the school believe that a smart school uniform is an essential part of the ethos of the school. In determining the uniform, governors have sought views of:

- the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team;

- parents;

- staff;

- students

SCHOOL UNIFORM AND DRESS CODE

The Governors of Oulder Hill School have laid down regulations for school uniform. For all students, uniform is compulsory. The Headteacher has the power to exclude from school any student who, after a warning, refuses to obey the uniform regulations.

Students are expected to come to school each day dressed appropriately, looking smart, well-groomed and for an environment in which learning and teaching are paramount. We ask parents/carers to support the school in ensuring that the uniform requirements are met and that extremes of fashion are avoided. Some modes of dress can cause embarrassment to other students, staff and visitors and are therefore totally unsuitable for a place of work. Our emphasis is on what is reasonable. Untucked shirts, incorrectly worn ties, low slung trousers, unconventional hairstyles or where the face is obscured, skirts which are extremely tight, short or worn with the waistband rolled up or down, high heeled or flimsy shoes, false nails, jewellery, facial/body piercing, extremes of fashion or make up do nothing to enhance the reputation of the school and are, therefore, unacceptable.

School Uniform and Equipment List

(All items should be clearly named)

SCHOOL UNIFORM

BLAZER: Oulder Hill School Blazer.

SKIRT: Standardised black knee length in plain material with school logo.

TROUSERS: Black in plain material. (NO SHORTS).

SHIRT: Plain white tailored with collar which must be tucked in at all times and top button fastened.

TIE: Ties worn must show seven stripes and/or the school logo. (Yr11 students have an alternative version).

PULLOVER (optional): Black v-necked school sweater with OHCS logo/motif

SOCKS: Grey, black or white.

TIGHTS: Black or natural shades without patterns.

FOOTWEAR: Plain black full shoe or ankle boot (worn under trousers). NO TRAINERS, PUMPS, CANVAS SHOES, COLOURED BADGES, HIGH HEELS, WEDGES, COLOURED BANDS OR LACES.

(No badges, logos or insignia other than the school’s are acceptable on clothing) The only coat allowed to be worn inside the building will be a blazer.

P.E. Kit

· School black Polo Shirt (long or short sleeve)

· Black Shorts

· Black/green hooded top

· Black/green Tracksuit (optional) and only worn at the discretion of PE staff.

· Black long/short socks

· Training Shoes (with non marking soles)

· Swimwear – full swimming costumes (swimming caps for girls and boys where necessary)

· Football boots may also be required.

Other accessories such as shin pads and gum shields may be needed and your child will receive information on these from P.E. staff

RELIGIOUS DRESS: A plain black Hijab may be worn

Blazer badges are available from the School Reception for parents who wish to purchase a plain black blazer.

Ties are available from the School Reception.

Hair:

For health, safety and eyesight reasons long hair should be fastened back off the face.

No extreme hairstyles are allowed (no Mohicans, lines or patterns).

Hair colouring, if used, must be within a range of natural hair colours and must not be in extreme contrasting colours, for example black and blond.

Jewellery: For health, safety and security reasons, ONLY one pair of stud earrings may be worn in the ear.

NO OTHER JEWELLERY IS ACCEPTABLE.

Nose studs and all other forms of body piercing are forbidden in school.

Make-Up: Make-up must not be worn in school.

Nails: No varnish or false nails of any type.

Important School Equipment List

The following equipment is considered an essential minimum to be brought to school each day.

- Pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, pencil sharpener, pencil case.

- Mathematical equipment and calculator.

- Personal Planner } this is provided by the school and checked regularly.

- Suitable bag to carry equipment. (Drawstring bags are not considered suitable as a main school bag).

- Dictionary.

- Reading Book.

Cycles

If you have permission to cycle to school, make sure :

- your cycle is roadworthy

- you cycle sensibly and safely

- you lock it up whilst at school.

RESPONSIBILITIES

It is the Head's responsibility to ensure that the governors' policy is implemented and maintained. The Head will also determine any questions of compliance with the code. The Head may delegate particular responsibilities concerning school uniform to members of staff. The Head will determine which staff may impose sanctions for non-compliance with school uniform. It is the duty of all staff to monitor and uphold the uniform standard and to report any non-compliance to the Head.

SANCTIONS

Sanctions may be meted out for non-compliance with school uniform. Parents will be kept informed of any sanctions imposed.

COMPLAINTS

Any complaints about school uniform or dress must be made in the first instance to the Head. If the complaint is not satisfactorily resolved the complaint should be brought to the attention of the governing body through the Clerk to the Governing Body. The governing body’s decision will be final.

MONITORING AND REVIEW

The Head will report to the governing body at least once per year on the working of the policy, and will include in the report the number of cases of non-compliance during the previous period, and any action taken.
